A few posts ago, I wrote about the concept of primary and secondary foods. Primary foods are the things that nourish you off the plate. Health is one of the 12 primary foods in the Institute for Integrative Nutrition model.
Why is health considered a primary food? Think about it this way....
When your primary food is balanced and satiating, your LIFE feeds you, making what you eat secondary. <insert lightbulb moment>
Health is self-care - it's the recognition that your body has needs and taking action to meet those needs. Far too often, we completely ignore and dismiss what our body is telling us it needs. Amiright??
How radical would it be to actually listen to our body and give it what needs?
The tricky part is this:
Health demands a commitment to self-love, which for many of us is a hard sell. But honestly, deep down we all know that loving ourselves is where this has to begin.
Maybe you have no idea where to start. A great way to get going is to fall back on some healthy basics. Check out this collage of infographics I made to see how easy it might be to start focusing on your health through self care.
Did you take a look? Which healthy basics are you already practicing regularly? Which ones could use more focus and attention? Leave a comment to share.
Wow. I really like the one that's called Align. I'm going to start doing that each morning. And I'll set a timer on my phone to check in with myself once a day. That's something I never thought to do. I check in with friends regularly to see how they're doing, but it didn't occur to me to do the same for myself. I liked this blog. I'll probably come back to the collage and start checking them off. :)
