What does health mean to you?

For most of my life (actually, let's be honest ... for my ENTIRE life until starting my Health Coach Training Program), I have conceptualized or thought about health solely in the physical realm. What I mean by this is that I only considered myself to be "healthy" if I was "eating right" and getting regular exercise.

While physical health IS a component of health, it is definitely not the only dimension of our overall health and well-being. There are so many more influences that have an impact on each of us as individuals. At IIN, one of the core concepts of the health coaching model is multidimensional health. This refers to the idea that health is holistic and extends to all aspects of the individual's life. Each aspect of health - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual - is interconnected and influences the other aspects in many ways.

Part of my work during this training year will be focusing on my own health transformation. If I have prioritized my physical health, what other aspects or dimensions of my health have I given less attention to? Where can I lean in more in those areas so that I can live with the best vitality possible?

I love how this training is already helping me consider all the ways that my day to day choices impact my overall health. As I have reflected on what brings me joy "off the plate", I realize that cultivating beauty in my home environment, exploring my creativity and making time to connect with my girl-tribe are all important and integral parts of my overall health and well-being.

My little photo collage is my attempt to visually capture these elements or dimensions of my health so I don't forget to prioritize them, even as I practice healthy, balanced nutrition and ways to incorporate physical movement into my life.

As you think about health holistically - physical, mental, emotional, spiritual - what areas have you prioritized? What areas could use a little more attention?

I think for me, I need to explore how the mental, emotional, and spiritual interconnect with the physical. My physical health is the most challenging aspect of wellness for me. I think connecting the dots of how healthy eating and movement makes me feel better, and how I can bring gratitude and mindfulness to each meal is what I want to explore next.

You are such a reflective and intentional human being. I love that you have discerned an area that needs more of your time and attention. Excited to see where this insight takes you!
